About Dr Mayo
 
 
Dr Mayo was born in Virginia, and moved to Idaho in 1978. He attended college in Boise, and moved to North Carolina briefly, then returned to the northwest to attend veterinary school. Since graduation, he has made Mountlake Terrace, Washington, his home with the love of his life, Laura.
 
Dr. Mayo graduated from Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 with honors. Prior to veterinary school, Dr Mayo was a respiratory therapist at Duke University Medical Center, and recieved his training in that field from Boise State University in 1986. He practiced respiratory therapy until 1990, at which time he entered veterinary school full time. Dr Mayo holds 5 college degrees from three major universities.
 
Dr Mayo purchased his first veterinary practice in 1995 in Lynnwood, Washington, and his second practice in 2000, also in Lynnwood. Dr. Mayo devoted much of his practice time to learning new procedures in rigid endoscopy, orthopedics, and radiosurgery. In 2007, Dr Mayo began teaching orthopedic courses throughout the United States and abroad in small animals.
 
Dr Mayo passed the certification program administered by the Veterinary Laser Surgical Society in February 2005 (www.vsls.com). This program certifies compentency amongst veterinarians for proper use and understanding of lasers in small animal surgical applications.
 
In November of 2007, Dr Mayo earned his Diplomate status in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, with certification in Canine and Feline Practice. For more information, see the PRESS RELEASEor go to their website, www.abvp.com.  
 
In January 2008, a computer program was released in several countries by a company called Odyssey Veterinary Software (www.odysseyvet.com). Dr Mayo was one of several contributors to this program that has sold many copies already.
 
In July 2008, Dr Mayo traveled to Tokyo, Japan to lecture to the local veterinarians on the use of radiowave radiosurgery and its applications to orthopedic and endoscopic surgery. If you'd like to see pictures from the trip, go here.
 
In November 2008, he was invited to Germany to speak at an orthopedic surgery meeting.
 
April of 2009, Dr Mayo lectured in Italy. In June of 2009, he lectured in Bulgaria.
 
In July of 2009, Dr Mayo became a Fellow of the North American Academy of Veterinary Orthopedic Surgery. For more information, click on the logo below.
 
In Sept of 2009, Dr Mayo again lectured in Italy, and again Dec 2009.
 
In 2010, Dr Mayo plans to continue lecturing on orthopedics and soft tissue surgical procedures in the USA. He spent two weeks in Australia teaching two 2-day courses to local veterinarians on orthopedic surgery.
 
When not practicing veterinary medicine or touring the US & Europe lecturing and teaching, Dr Mayo likes to fly (real) airplanes, workout at the gym, and play the piano. From time to time, Dr Mayo has been invited to play piano at weddings for friends. He is now studying the guitar.
